PATIENCE, PERSEVERANCE AND PRESERVATION

During one difficult period in Church history, James encouraged the saints with these words:

“Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.” (James 5:10-11)

In this day of witnessing the pressing works of evil on every side, Christians need not be fearful nor doubtful of the future. Our God is ALWAYS victorious in every situation, though what we behold with our eyes and ears in the natural may seem to belie what our heart knows to be true.

Many are questioning within themselves at this point: “But what can I do in the midst of such worldly turmoil?”

Well, the immediate answer to that question is a spiritual one rather than a carnal one. It’s not so much what WE will do for God, but what GOD will do for US!

“… the Lord shall deliver (us) from every evil work, and will PRESERVE (us) unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (2 Timothy 4:18)

Every born-again believer that has been “sealed by the Holy Ghost” can absolutely DEPEND upon the power of God to deliver and preserve us in the midst of any personal trial, affliction, persecution or tribulation!

Jesus encouraged His disciples:

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have OVERCOME the world.” (John 16:33)

Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Ghost, has already “overcome” and “defeated” every conceivable threat that the world and its demonic agents can throw at us! As long as our hope and faith remain vigilant to the “inner” voice of the Spirit that dwells within our hearts, fear will never be our testimony.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

We are now entering into a season where our testimony of Jesus Christ “in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation” is of vital importance … “among whom ye shine as lights in the world; holding forth the word of life.” (Philippians 2:15-16)

Of course, don’t be surprised if our “testimony” is not received. We are now entering a “spiritual” warfare that rivals the days of the church in the Book of Acts. The enemy will always seek to hinder, steal or destroy the works that God desires to accomplish through us.

“Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.” (Isaiah 54:15)

“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD … in righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.” (Isaiah 54:17,14)

These are precious promises of God that every Christian should engrave upon their hearts. For the days ahead will require patience and perseverance as never before.

BUT GOD … “will PRESERVE us unto His heavenly Kingdom”!
