AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL

First and foremost, let us establish the truth of the matter. Though America has a Godly heritage passed down from our Founding Fathers, it is still a secular institution. Like any other culture or nation throughout history, it stands or falls solely upon the merits of its own peoples and government … NO EXCEPTIONS!

The British Empire was a mighty kingdom for hundreds of years, spreading Christianity throughout the world under its “colonization” process. But when its people began to fall away from God, so did the nation. Today, Britain is but a flicker of the “light” that it used to be in its former glory.

Up until now, America has been considered by the rest of the world as a nation that also carries the light of God within its soul. But that image has been sorely marred by the materialistic mindset over the years of its citizenry and the militaristic ventures world-wide by its government.

The American people over the last few decades have become more interested in worshipping the Super Bowl than they have in reverencing God Almighty. Not to mention their lethargic acceptance of evil movements such as abortion on demand, LGBTQ rights and the takeover of Marxist ideology in our schools and universities.

Our government, behind the secret and clandestine operations of the NSA, CIA and FBI, has also engaged in ungodly behavior by toppling governments around the globe, initiating endless wars throughout the world and subverting the Constitutionally-protected rights of its own citizens.

All of which, for some reason, brings to mind our national anthem: “The Star Spangled Banner”!

It was written during the passion and battlefields of “The War of 1812”. And though it was designated for official use by the US Navy in 1889, it didn’t become our national anthem until 1931.

Since that time, it has been sung by the public with pride and respect at the beginning of just about every sporting event, including the World Olympics. More recently, however, it has become the object of scorn by many who take a “politically correct” stand against it, most notably by those very athletes who “take a kneel” during its public performance.

Be that as it may, that disrespect only serves to expose the “secularism” behind it. In other words, why have we adopted a “war-like” anthem to represent a nation of people who fear God?

Think about it!

Instead of promoting a tuneful image of war and destruction (played out now in every conceivable 3-D graphics computer game … filling the minds and hearts of young people with nothing but violence), why did our government not choose “America the Beautiful” as its national identity? It was actually the “runner up” when Congress was considering the matter.

Here are the lyrics:

“Oh beautiful for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain”

“America, America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea”

“Oh beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness”

“America, America
God mend thine every flaw
Confirm thy soul in self-control
Thy liberty in law”

Doesn’t that sound more like the America we love and cherish? It’s even easier to sing! 🙂

But no, we’re stuck with glorifying “bombs bursting in air” and worshipping the “land of the free and the home of the brave” (neither of which seem to exist anymore on our children’s streets or within the international corporate confines known as Washington, D.C.)!

Maybe God will yet restore America to its former heritage. But without a total repentance on the part of its citizenry, it seems like a pipe dream at this point in time. Because that sort of repentance requires much more than just crying out to God for “normalcy” and going back to enjoying life as usual. It requires a deep work in the heart of every Christian!

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

That sort of repentance is not self-seeking (i.e. hoping for a return to better times). It’s the result of faith pouring forth from a pure heart which seeks only the manifestation and glorification of God’s Will upon the Earth.

AMEN!
