“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalms 11:3)
Great question!
Right now in the United States of America, the “foundations” which Christians have depended on and have quietly rested are under severe attack! These attacks are coming from every quarter (and have been for the last 50 years) in order to undermine our families, our personal economic security, our educational aspirations and our very governmental institutions. And these very foundations (that they have been seeking to destroy) are designed in order that we may maintain an environment in which…
“… we may live quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness”.
The recent impeachment of President Trump has sought to remove a “foundation” that maintains religious freedom and the will of a Christian-minded citizenry … a foundation which has been well established from the beginning of our Republic. And this foundation is not only the presidency, but the very institutions of our Congress and the Supreme Court as well where the vital “separation of powers” was of the utmost importance to our Founding Fathers. Whether you like him or not … whether he is truly born again or not … President Trump has stood against the atheistic “establishment” and has promoted Christian values both in America and throughout the world.
But the efforts of an earthly-enriched, Luciferian elite seek (through nefarious and Satanic means) to not only disrupt, but to totally destroy our liberty and our ability to conduct a Christian way of life! If their agenda succeeds in destroying those very foundations that we, as Christians, have enjoyed for over 240 years as being “unalienable rights” … what shall we do?
Well, before that happens, we must gain a more comprehensive and eternal perspective concerning what might become “dire circumstances” in our near future! God, in all of His eternal wisdom, does not “think” like we think.
“Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near … For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:6,8-9)
“God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.” (Psalms 53:2)
Even within the parameters of the Christian world, the Lord “searches the hearts” of those who believe in Him. Are there any that understand … are there any that seek after Him with all of their hearts … are there any among them who are actually “doers” of the Word and not “hearers only”?
There is one method that separates the true followers of Christ from the nominal … the wise from the unwise … and that is the application of the “fire” of God’s Holy Spirit!
“For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.” (Mark 9:49)
When John the Baptist came preaching repentance, he also gave a preview of that which was to come, saying:
“I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with FIRE” (Luke 3:16)
We see this phenomenon also in the 12th chapter of Psalms:
“The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.” (Psalms 12:6)
The Word of God within a Christian will “try” that individual to see if that one is a “doer of the Word” or just a “hearer only”. It will also “purify” that one as a true child of God. And “seven times” basically alludes to the fact that this “process” will occur countless times throughout the extent of that Christian’s life!
It is written of Joseph, who would endure tremendous trials to prepare him for being able to ultimately rule as Egypt’s second most powerful leader next to Pharaoh himself:
“Until the time that his word came (i.e. was fulfilled): the word of the Lord tried him.” (Psalms 105:19)
Years before Joseph was “exalted” in the land, he received a dream from God describing how his own parents and brethren would one day bow down before him. Upon revealing that dream (i.e. the Word of the Lord unto him), he became the object of great persecutions and afflictions … UNTIL GOD’S WORD WITHIN HIM CAME TO PASS!
Now, with that in mind, let us return to the subject at hand.
In the days to come, it may very well be that Satan’s agenda on Earth may appear in “victory mode” against the saints. But those who have endured the “fires” of having their mettle “tried seven times” will not only endure that season of “foundational shaking”, but they will come forth as “purified silver” in the eyes of the Lord. And their exceptional trust and faith in the Lord will come forth as “pure gold”!
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which … hath begotten us again unto a lively hope … Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations” (1 Peter 1:3-6)
“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:7)
That is why the glorified Christ revealed to John to counsel the lukewarm Christians in Laodicea to…
“…buy of me gold tried in the fire” (Revelation 3:18)
Even in cases where it appears that failure and defeat have occurred, to the overcoming saint there is no defeat. For the Lord shall “avenge them speedily” when they cry out:
“Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.” (Psalms 12:1)
Then the Lord will respond to their cry:
“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.” (Psalms 12:5)
“For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing (i.e. His saints) whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:10-11)
“For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” (Isaiah 55:12-13)
So, in conclusion, the answer to the question of “what shall the righteous do” if the foundations are destroyed is simple:
They will TRUST and have CONFIDENCE in the Lord their God that “doeth all things well” and will overturn all the negative effects of their arch-enemy, Satan … until he and all his cohorts (whether demonic or human) be totally destroyed in the lake of fire forever and ever!
“For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.” (Psalms 11:2)
BUT…
“The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. The Lord trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.” (Psalms 11:4-5)
“Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.” (Psalms 11:6)
