DRINKING HIS BLOOD

THIS ARTICLE CONTINUES FROM:   THE BREAD OF LIFE

When Jesus walked the earth, he had some pretty astonishing things to say, not the least of which was:

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.” (John 6:53-55)

To understand this saying, one has to realize what Jesus went on to say:

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63)

The words of God are spiritual, life-giving and literally quicken those who hear them by the Spirit. So, when Jesus talks about drinking his blood, obviously he’s not referring to the literal blood which was flowing through his veins at the time.

Nor was he referring to the “communion cup” which millions of Christians share on Saturday or Sunday at church. That cup is a commemoration of his death on the cross … not the “quickening” blood which he admonishes his disciples to drink!

Think about it. After one partakes of communion at church, they may leave feeling better for having participated in a Christian ceremony; but, by the time they go to work on Monday, they’re really no different than they were the previous week. They just feel better!

But Jesus said that the blood he wanted his disciples to drink would “quicken” them, even unto eternal life!

So, let’s find out what his “blood” really is and how to drink it. Remember, his words are spirit and they are life:

“But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, …” (Hebrews 9:11)

That “more perfect tabernacle” was his glorified body which he obtained at the resurrection!

“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” (Hebrews 9:12)

Remember, Jesus is in his glorified body now … not his flesh and blood body which was hanging on the cross!

“For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:” (Hebrews 9:13)

In other words, if the physical blood of bulls and goats (which spilled on the ground and became polluted) actually “sanctified” the Jews participating in the ceremony:

“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.” (Hebrews 9:14)

Read that verse again … slowly … and let it minister life unto you!

THE BLOOD OF CHRIST IS IN THE SPIRIT!

To drink the blood of Christ, one has to be in the Spirit with him!

The blood of Christ is not sitting in a communion cup or a “relic” dug up out of the ground in Jerusalem … IT’S IN THE SPIRIT … in the very Holy of Holies which the Old Testament tabernacle was a “shadow type” of.

“For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:” (Hebrews 9:23)

And Christians today have access into this Holy of Holies where the blood of Christ now abides! But few take advantage of it!

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us … come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:14,16)

The best way to enter into this “throne of grace” (Holy of Holies) is through:

PRAYER!

When a Christian prays in the Spirit, he is literally cooperating with the Holy Ghost which dwells in him to enter into God’s very presence where the blood of Christ abides. In this mutual participation of the Holy Ghost in prayer, a Christian is literally “drinking in” the blood of Christ … for that is where the blood of Christ dwells … in the Spirit!

So, a Christian drinks the blood of Christ by praying in the Spirit!
